Northwest Aviation College

International Student Overview

We accept international students by offering both M1 and F1 Visas. The first step for international students is to secure financing for their flight training. Before Northwest Aviation College can issue a form I-20 for the Visa, we need to see "proof of financial ability". This means sending a copy of either bank statements or a letter of credit that indicates you have the funds available to complete your training. You can pay as you go from those accounts where ever they may reside.

Once you have funding secured, the process goes like this:

  1. Enrollment and application forms will be sent to complete and return.
  2. A telephone conversation to evaluate your English speaking ability, and to further identify your aviation goals will be scheduled. This will help the college to develop your program and establish a more accurate program cost estimate.
  3. Along with your forms, you'll send a $2,500.00 security deposit to be placed in your account. Toward the end of your program, this money can be used toward the cost of your flight training. From that deposit, a $200.00 enrollment fee will be charged to cover the cost of your enrollment processing and paperwork.
  4. The staff at the college will then work with you to get preliminary "U.S. Transporation Security Administration" (TSA) approval for conducting flight training in the United States. (Takes about 2-days for this part, which is handled via email).
  5. Once TSA approval is received, you will recieve the Form I-20 for your Visa.
  6. Once entering the United States, you'll check in with the school, and schedule an appointment to get finger-printed so that the second part of the TSA background check can be completed. Once approved (about 7 days), you'll have permission to begin your flight training. Once you arrive, the college will also get you set up with a place to live while you're here.
  7. Last, once you are situated, we'll enroll you into your college and flight-training programs and get you started with your education!
